About Pete Mellows Photography

Pete Mellows lives in southern Tasmania, Australia, with the south-western wilderness on his doorstep. Tasmania is a truly unique part of the world. Its geology is some of the oldest found on the planet, with a large portion easily accessible by the many walking trails found throughout the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

History

Pete has always been interested in photography from a young age, but has maintained the passion in the form of a hobby. He has experience spanning print design, tourism, IT and hospitality.

Hospitality was a natural career choice for Pete, thanks to his intense interest in people and how they react to different situations. Capturing emotion in images is a favourite past-time. During this time, he concentrated largely on live music and capturing captivating images for social media.

Pete was an official photographer for Naked Dwarf (nakeddwarf.com.au), shooting artists such as Thirsty Merc, Spiderbait and Queens of The Stone Age.

During his time in tourism, Pete’s love for the wilderness grew beyond simple admiration. His tours took him to places off the typical tourist map in Tasmania, taking in such sights as the Florentine Valley,  Southport Conservation Area, Bangor Farm on Forestierre Peninsula, Skullbone Plains in the central highlands and much more. It awoke a desire to see more of Tasmania’s wilderness and to show that to the world.

With more time available, Pete began visiting more places, always taking a camera and tripod. Travelling solo meant that more time could be spent on a photograph, resulting in memorable, artistic images.

Photographic Styles

Pete’s passions lie in artistic landscapes and candid portrait photography. Photographs, like any art, should evoke an emotive response. It is not enough to see an amazing landscape. The photograph should enhance the ambience of a room.

All photographs are taken in a non-studio environment, where chaos can result in some truly amazing situations.
